My Post-Extinction Years

My Post-Extinction Years

Love the title and the yellow cover is intriguing. Included is a review of Moore’s previous book from the Leaside-Rosedale Town Crier which states: “… while comments on his book have leaned heavily on the negative, he believes the readers just don’t get it.” I must admit to feeling as if I’m missing something as well, although I don’t think I would lean to the negative. There is some clever word play here and often striking or funny lines (“the audience booed and sent you a bill for the earache”) but I can’t figure out where this stream of consciousness is flowing, or even if I’m meant to know. There is definitely a rhythm lurking behind some of these 12 poems, making me want to hear them read out loud: “I’ll play the victim then pen you in with some convenient symptom…” I quite enjoyed the more focused poems, like “Cardstock,” which is about picking the appropriate greeting card for the apocalypse.
