This is exactly one sheet of paper, photocopied on both sides. It’s like some guy writes a rambling but perky essay about his gay sexuality and how, ultimately, he might understand himself within the context of gay terminology. Instead of sending it to another zine or magazine or trying to get it published somewhere, he just photocopies it and calls it In Memoriam to Dissidentity and leaves it lying around and maybe mails it to people (he mailed to us). One day someone will pick this up and start reading and maybe put it down real quick or maybe just keep reading and learn that our author hates the term Straight Queer but uses it as a way to meander into his on-going obsession, defining what it is to be gay without being grouped into a bunch of stereotypes. Recommended reading. Interestingly enough, the first issue was much more of a traditional zine with collage and clippings and a short article about David Bowie that ends “maybe he wouldn’t have felt so confused about sex if he hadn’t been so confused about everything else.” So this zine is devolving, much like a lot of the discourse around issues of gay and lesbian identity. For what it’s worth, I prefer the straight essay format to the meandering zine look.
