Swizland
Very impressive book we have here. Large size, color silkscreen cover with a single large drawing on it. Nice end page designs, ISBN numbers, scholarly introduction by Valium, excellent layout. I do believe Swiz has just raised the bar for any local comic artist looking to put out a simple collection – not that they HAVE to add all these extra touches, it’s just that this proves it’s all worth doing. As usual, a fat joint is of use when appreciating Swiz comics, but it’s not entirely necessary this time around. The size of the pages makes every strip much easier to read and appreciate. Aside from his own quirky, megalomaniacal strips, there are joint efforts with Trembles (‘Toiletron 200′), Valium, Guim and d. bilos. What was once an obviously Valium and Trembles – inspired drawing style is really coming into its own. It goes to show, if you work hard and long enough at it, you, too, can have a comic style of your own. And if you smoke enough pot and hang out with demented old comic artists, you can have a style like Swiz’. (LR)
