Zipper Mouth (excerpts)
This little chap is a series of excerpts of the first novel of Laurie Weeks, the lesbian poet and writer who took America by storm last summer as part of the Sister Spit tour. It’s…ooh, it’s so creepy and disturbing and pee-in-your-pants funny. Basically the story of a young female heroin addict living life close to the edge in NYC, the semi-autobiographical tales resonate with much black humor and an almost Bukowski balance of weariness and optimism. Best part: the main character’s posthumous fan letter to Sylvia Plath. “I picture you like Kristen Scott Thomas. But with glasses.” (JP)
