Danielle describes herself as “new to the comix world” but you would never know it. In this half-sized comic she recounts tales of childhood awkwardness (getting sick from eating too many hot dogs at a Mormon carnival; accidentally punching her dad in the junk), working as a maid (a Swiffer is not a mop, people!), taking her grandmother out for fish and chips (“Will it be cooked right?”) and other everyday tribulations. Sometimes funny and sometimes sad, all of Patrick’s stories have a compelling realness about them and the cherubic-looking characters can provide a counterbalance to some of the more unsettling scenes, like the untimely disappearance of Mew the kitten and Patrick’s realization of her grandmother’s increasing frailty.
