Velocity

Velocity

It looks like Exclaim! magazine, the source of Canadian indie rock news, now has a competitor rising out of East _ but Exclaim! hasn’t got much to worry about just yet. Still in its first year of production, Velocity presents itself just like the aforementioned magazine. However, in terms of content, it still has a long way to go. Between the few good articles (interviews with the Wooden Stars, North of America and Mike Leblanc; On The Jazz Tip column) there is a lot of stuff which feels like filler, and at times is detrimental to the maturity Velocity is trying to evoke. The article on “..soundtracks for the intimate moments of your life” felt was particularly useless as was the full page prank call to a psychic (getting bored at the office folks?) and the article on rock voguing. The music review section is hugely disappointing and begs to ask the question if the magazine got these to review or if the writers happened to buy such a small, random amount of music between issues. Perhaps Velocity needs to take a two issue break, get its contacts/writers and most importantly format together, and then start again. (KJ)
