As I write this, CBC news is interviewing an ex-member of the Solar Temple cult. I imagine this fellow’s embarrassment over his former affiliations (the cult ended up making headlines for mass murder/suicides) to be comparable in quality, if not intensity, to my feelings when I look at science-fiction/fantasy fanzines. When I was 12 or so I was deeply immersed in this world, the language, the in-jokes, the cultish profundity of the worldview, etc. So — Scott is a likeable British Columbia guy, but in this issue of ZGL he has disappeared too thoroughly into the unintelligible indulgences of his faith. Beware. For fellow travellers only.
