Pussy Chute

This is the debut CD by this brilliantly  unconventional Guelph-area band. They  cover musical ground from jazz-hop to  punk rock in a style that evokes the  sparse funk of early Luscious Jackson  and the intensity of PJ Harvey, blended  with a forthright queer perspective.  Most of this excellently-produced album  pares right down to singer Michele  Thorsen’s stunning vocals floating over  powerhouse beats, with bits of bass and  violin filling in the low and high. The  tracks flow seamlessly into a sorta long  vocal dub, from the opening phat jazz- funk instrumental, The Secret Life of  Sharks, into the HIV+ monologue of  Caravans (for Sol) – all I want is one  full mouth kiss – and the energetic  intimacy of tunes like Notes on Beauty  and One-way Girlfriend. Nothing out  there sounds quite like this – Electronic  Treasure Hunting is by far the best indie  CD I ve heard this year.
