Sylvia Wrath delivers customary pop introspection in ‘really big picture’

Sylvia Wrath

really big picture

The second EP from this Vancouver trio — there’s an Oklahoma punk band named Sylvia Wrath as well — is vaguely reminiscent of the self-titled debut from London, Ontario, band The Weekend (2000), but it’s noticeably grittier. The tone of really big picture is best described by the band themselves in the opening tune, “Rough around the edge but still the stars in our eyes.” Cynicism is the main course, here; songs about friends, relationships and a break-up lead to customary pop introspection: “I wanted to be good for you, as if it really mattered.”
